Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) Medicare Advantage plans provide its members information on their right to complete an advance directive. Advance directive means a written instruction, recognized under state law, relating to how to provide health care when an individual is incapacitated. As part of the medical record content requirements for BCBSNE, physicians must document in the medical record whether a member has or does not have an advance directive. If a member has completed and presents an advance directive, then the provider must include it in the member’s medical record.
