Resident/Students

Beginning April 1, 2023, claims submitted by a teaching physician for services rendered by residents or interns will be considered for reimbursement when appended with modifier GC. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the modifier indicates services were rendered in part by a resident or intern under the direction of a teaching physician.  

Services rendered by a student are not reimbursed.

Services appended with modifier GE indicating services were rendered by a resident without the presence of a teaching physician will deny as inclusive.
