The journal star had an article on Tony R’s talking points up today.
Here - (Tony says)
He claimed we should focus on domestic issues, and help the middle class which is being squeezed, good Democratic points. Then went on to push his business background stating
I’ve had 40 years of creating jobs in good times and bad,” he said.
Well except the latest jobs Tony created are not here in the US, they are in China
where I doubt he would like anyone to know what his workers there make for a work week, or how many hours per week they work for that pittance.
Perhaps Tony should remind everyone he layed off workers in Nebraska just recently when he starts claiming to be all about jobs creation.
Two other comments by Tony bear discussing..
“I think we’re way overdue in making sure there are tax breaks for the middle class,” Raimondo said. “If we do anything, we could leave off the top 2 percent” of wealthy taxpayers in providing or extending tax relief.
Until last month, Raimondo served as chairman of the state’s worker training board, which oversees a program to help businesses retrain workers to adjust to global competition and technological change.
That effort to help companies and workers address “the skills gap” could be applied nationally, he said.
OK, so you are not going to give any MORE tax breaks to the rich, in your other talks you said you supported the tax breaks GWB already gave the rich, and would not repeal them.
You also support eliminating the estate tax. So in essence you want to give a little bone to the middle class and keep the top tax bracket people paying the same or even getting a bigger windfall.
A worker retraining program, which pays businesses handsomely I bet, and another program you have no idea how to pay for.
How about coming up with something original in the way of how to pay DOWN the massive national debt we already have, or pray tell us which programs you are going to cut to
even try to balance the budget, because it has to be done sooner or later.
Tony supports the status quo, he likes and supports free markets and free trade, and
abhors goverment regulation. A position which is fair to only the rich, business owners and their shareholders.
Since he was a past President of the National Association of Manufacturers you can get an idea of the company he keeps, the NAM has always been anti-union, anti-regulation and just about against everything that is good for the public interest.
Right now they are in troouble for making up false facts about global warming and how
reducing our greenhouse emissions as a country will hurt the economy.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/25/030/95399/505/483597
and here - http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2008/03/24/opinion/guest/22-loaded.txt
SO in effect the NAM uses fudged numbers to support their BS claims…
Much like Tony, he talks about creating jobs, when his own history is one of breaking unions, laying workers off, and investing his own money in China and not here.
And as for the middle class, well those middle class workers at Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus NE are making the same wages they made back in 1987 adjusted for inflation.
But I bet Tony is making one heck of a lot more than he did back then.
Enough to spend over a million dollars to buy himself a Senate seat….
In a few weeks all the folks in Lincoln and Omaha should start seeing nice TV ads showing
Tony the smiling bipartisan businessman asking for your vote.
Ask him to give all his workers the same raises he gave himself over the last 10 years then tell him you’ll vote for him.
Because right here in Nebraska he is one of the people that causes the middle class to be squeezed.
And all the cash he donated to the GOP and George Bush over the last 8 years helped too.
Ask him how much money he gave to GWB.
Sorry Tony, you have a lot more explaining to do before Democrats in Nebraska will give you a serious look.

Last night Scott Kleeb held a meet and greet at Nathan Detroits (the best bar in Grand Island). There were 35-40 in attendance to listen to Scott’s message. Your’s truly was there with a nice pint of Guiness in hand. I’ve never met Scott before (he sure is a tall fell’r) and I was impressed with his openness and willingness to talk to everyone in the room.
Scott hit most of the Democratic talking points of Health Care, Veterans Care, The War, The Economy and the Environment. What I like about Kleeb is his concious choice to plant his feet in the 3rd District. The 3rd District is not where I grew up or where my family lives, but it is where I work and have spent the better part of two decades enjoying the beauty of the Niobrara,Dismal and Loup river valleys, hunting spring turkey and mule deer. Photographing prairie chicken mating grounds and canoeing the pristine rivers. It’s were people are genuine and look you in the eye. It’s also where 90% of registered voters are Republicans.
To be sure, Scott has his work cut out for him. The primary contest alone has this relatively upstart newcomer with limited exposure, in anywhere but the 3rd district, against a one time nominee for the Bush administrations “Manufacturing Czar". Raimondo has the money to spend on his primary campaign. Scott has a good pair of boots and a desire to meet people face to face. And it didn’t cost me a $100 a plate dinner to do it. To be fair, Scott is raising money and actually I was impressed with the early release and size of his campaign chest after only two weeks.
I encourage any and all Nebraska voters to go to www.scottkleeb.com and check his events schedule. If Scott has a meet and greet near you, give the guy a look and hear what he has to say.
To Scott, You have an open invitation here on NebraskaBlue.
UPDATE 2
Even ABC news has her pinned down with this story. (Sorry I couldn’t resist).
Watch it until the end where Tanya Harding comes into play…
“I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”
–Hillary Clinton, speech at George Washington University, March 17, 2008.
Here’s the video of her speech and the ACTUAL visit, to say she lied is putting it
mildly…
Well BS… you can read more here - http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/03/hillarys_balkan_adventures_par.html
And watch video of her stoll calmly out of the C-17 she flew in on here..
Some FACTS the spin meisters of Camp Hillary might not like, but they are STILL facts.
Tuzla airfield was a US Army/Air Force base called Eagle Base.
The 1st Armor Division had very good security set up all around the base, with soldiers
manning defense bunkers every 50 yards apart or so in 1996.
And the closest hills to the north had no direct line of sight to the flight line, hence
no “Snipers in the hills", that could have hit a plane or a person on the ramp there.
I know that base INTIMATELY, I walked all over it, lived there and guarded it in 1999, and it still
looks much the same today as it did prior to the US taking it over for use in 1995.
It was an old Soviet Air Base from the cold war, you can see it on google earth, or google maps .
That plus the FACT that if there had been a creditable threat to Hillary and Chelsea’s safety, they would have been whisked away in armored suburbans by the US Army, out of harms way.
And actually Eagle Base WAS the base they were going to, although she did fly to 2 other
Camps in a UH-60 Blackhawk, with AH-64 Apache Gunships protecting her.
The fact that the video shows her actually having the ceremony on the flight line in the open throws her claims into the dirt.
Nice Whopper Hillary!!!!
If you have to make up stories about your trip to Bosnia in 1996 to puff up your claim to be presidential material, well that’s pretty pathetic.
Almost as pathetic as how badly you treat long time friends like Bill Richardson.
And just about as ethically bankrupt as your campaign is financially.

Good ol Mikey…
Job Shopper…. who finishes little, and leaves other people to clean up his messes..
Here’s some things everyone would do well to remember about what Mike DOES and disregard what he says…
Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns, who the president has named to replace Venemen, has a troubling track record of taking the side of agribusiness over that of working farmers. To wit:
Johanns has been a wild-eyed advocate for free-trade initiatives, particularly the granting of permanent most-favored nation trading status to China. In less than a decade, as the free-trade agenda has been implemented, America’s traditional advantage in agricultural trade has dropped by 61.6 percent. “This is a man-made catastrophe, an economic disaster,” Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says of the current free-trade regimen. “Through conscious policy we are outsourcing food production.”
Johanns was an aggressive supporter of the 2002 farm bill, which continued the misguided practice of directing substantial portions of U.S. farm-support spending into the treasuries of the largest agribusiness conglomerates and factory-farm operations. “This farm bill continues to tap taxpayers’ hard earned money to keep the farm economy limping along while the giant food processors and exporters reap cheap commodities to expand their control of the world’s food supply,” says George Naylor, president of the National Family Farm Coalition.
As governor, Johanns initiated what Nebraska farm advocates saw as an attempt to gut I-300, the state’s 23-year-old ban on corporations owning farmland or engaging in agricultural activity in the state. Johanns’s push for a review of I-300 drew harsh criticism from family-farm advocates last year. “There seems to be no useful purpose in modifying Initiative 300 unless the purpose is to subject Initiative 300 to legal attack,” argued Robert Broom, an attorney who successfully defended I-300 from constitutional challenge in federal trials. Under heavy pressure from rural voters, Nebraska legislators declined to give Johanns the authority to establish a task force that many expected to attack I-300.
When you look at the economy today, you can thank the folks just like Mike, that got us here.
Because when push comes to shove, Mike supports big business over Nebraska farm families
every time.
And giving this guy yet another stepping stone job to represent us in the US Senate is
not what this state needs right now.
UPDATE
One of many things I personnally remember about former Governor Johanns is that when my unit came home from our Deployment to Bosnia in Sept 1999, Senator Bob Kerrey and Congressman Doug Bereuter were standing at the bottom of the steps of the plane and they personally shook the hand of every soldier in the unit and welcomed them home. Many other local and State Dignitaries attended, but our Governor Mike Johanns? Well he sent an assistant to do the job for him.
Since 2001 I have been to many send off and welcome home events for Nebraska Army National Guard soldiers, to help see friends off, or welcome them home and at most of them Governor Johanns was a no show, (during his time as Governor) just like when I came home.
Now on Youtube, Hillary’s mentor…. Audio / video presentation.
Decide for yourself if you want to support someone with ties to a right wing
religeous cult.
(link to the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4UVt7ZFuuo )
Demonization of Clinton, from the right, has masked the fact that in supporting “Faith-Based” programs and their legal basis Hillary Clinton’s agenda has coincided with a central long range goal of the American religious right, of demolishing New Deal and Great Society social programs and redirecting a fraction of that money to religious organizations providing social services. Journalists Jeff Sharlet and Kathryn Joyce, in the September 2007 article, in Mother Jones, Hillary’s Prayer, closely examined Hillary Clinton’s religious beliefs and, with admirable nuance, concluded that Clinton’s beliefs are genuine but skew rightward and away from the Social Gospel ethos many of her supporters may hold.
The Family is an anti-democratic and elistist, sex-segregated fundamentalist power cult and influence-peddling ring with ties to brutal dictatorships. Hillary Clinton is not responsible for every last statement to issue from the mouth of Doug Coe but she most certainly is responsible for her association with The Family.
Ideas have consequences.
There’s a reason why Hillary Clinton has remained relatively silent during the flap over intemperate remarks by Barack Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. When it comes to unsavory religious affiliations, she’s a lot more vulnerable than Obama.
You can find all about it in a widely under-read article in the September 2007 issue of Mother Jones, in which Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet reported that “through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the “Fellowship,” aka The Family. But it won’t be a secret much longer. Jeff Sharlet’s shocking exposé, The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power will be published in May.
At the heart of the Family’s American branch is a collection of powerful rightwing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe, and Rick Santorum. They get to use the Family’s spacious estate on the Potomac, the Cedars, which is maintained by young men in Family group homes and where meals are served by the Family’s young women’s group. And, at the Family’s frequent prayer gatherings, they get powerful jolts of spiritual refreshment, tailored to the already-powerful.
Sharlet generously attributes Clinton’s involvement to the underappreciated depth of her religiosity, but he himself struggles to define the Family’s theological underpinnings. The Family avoids the word Christian but worship Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the “meek.” They believe that, in mass societies, it’s only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God’s “dominion” on earth. Insofar as the Family has a consistent philosophy, it’s all about power – cultivating it, building it, and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or “cells.” “We work with power where we can,” Doug Coe has said, and “build new power where we can’t.”
Obama has given a beautiful speech on race and his affiliation with the Trinity Unity Church of Christ. Now it’s up to Clinton to explain – or, better yet, renounce – her longstanding connection with the fascist-leaning Family.
This really just came in out of the blue, I knew that both Clintons were extremely driven
in the pursuit of power, but I had no idea Hillary was part of a right wing Religeous group.
I wonder how much money she and Bill have donated to this Group?
Someone in the MSM should ask her about her patricipation in it, and watch for the
response.

In my post about Scott Kleeb, I listed an event to where people could go
and see him in person, my source gave me the wrong date for that
event.
It was held the 18th not the 28th.
My original post listed this;
Scott Kleeb
US Senate CandidateCommunication Workers of America Hall
2448 N St.

Tuesday, March 28th
6:00 to 7:00pm
I apologize for putting up an incorrect date, and yes I will try and do better
in the future, after I have words with the friend that sent me that info.
Until another post, take care and enjoy this lovely spring weather.
Oh and did I mention VOTE?
Yes please Vote!

I wish Alan Greenspan had a big statue on wall street, so after the
meltdown of America’s financial health ends, we could have New York
Army National Guard troops throw ropes onto it, and pull it down on live TV.
Because he deserves it for his grossly dishonest statements made in the link below
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/edbdbcf6-f360-11dc-b6bc-0000779fd2ac.html
His article is the most explicit ever call for that age old principle: privatise the profits, socialise the losses. Why is that man still listened to? Oh yes: because the only public that matters are those on the privatised end of that sentence.
The virus is real and has a very high mortality rate.
Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a local gathering for Scott Kleeb in Lincoln.
(They must not read this Blog..) ![]()
I was impressed with Mr. Kleeb’s candor and the amount of time he took out of his
busy campaign schedule to speak at length with the participants. About two hours long!
He didn’t spend ten minutes just throwing out sound bites, It was more like a conversation between fellow Nebraskans, than a politician stumping for a few more votes.
Scott spent most of his time just listening, to people speak their minds about
the issues. sometimes at length.
(The following comments are NOT direct quotes, but my own paraphrasing of Mr. Kleebs
statements as I best remember them.
When asked “What will you do in Washington for us", he stated, “Well I am not going to promise you that I can make 100 percent of you happy all the time, But I will promise you
to use my best Judgement to represent the interests of the people of Nebraska and
the United States".
Scott also spoke about the war in Iraq, Saying “It is a complicated issue, but we have to
find a way to bring it to a close that is best for America".
And on taxes he brought up an issue near and dear to many Nebraskan’s, the National Debt.
“I have a seven month old Daughter, and she was born with a personal debt of $30,000 dollars, that’s the amount every American now owes as a share of the
National Debt, they should call it a birth tax, Because that’s truly what it is.
Much of our children’s future has been spent before they are even born. They are born in debt due to the fiscal mismanagement of the people now in Washington, and they deserve better than that".
Common sense and clarity coming from someone running for the US Senate…
Spoken by a young man wearing Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. If that isn’t a change from politics as usual, well then you haven’t been paying attention lately.
As we all started to leave the gathering at the end I couldn’t resist the irony of it, so I asked Scott if he had been in the “Skull and Bones Society” when he attended Yale..
(As Both George Bush’s have).
He laughed and said no, “They don’t allow Graduate Students into the Skull and Bones".
I take it he wouldn’t have been part of it anyway, even if that organization had been
open to him… But we did get to share a laugh about it.
(If I remember correctly, Scott told me he attended Colorado U at Boulder for his BS Degree, before continuing his education at Yale, where he recieved a Masters Degree and PHD).
All in all, talking to Scott Kleeb was a refreshing change from the usual crop of politicians that get fielded here in Nebraska every election cycle.
Perhaps he is someone that would best represent Nebraska as a US Senator, I encourage
everyone to find out more about him, and decide for yourself.
To find out more about Scott and who he is, you can go to his campaign website below.

Regardless of what Mr. Spitzer did or didn’t do in the story about him spending untold amounts of money for prositutes, the damage done to his family and reputation is fatal.
I would just like to say I feel very sorry for his wife, who looked as is she could not be less humiliated by anything. Standing there next to him at the podeum while Elliot himself looked for all the world he was just sorry he got caught, and not really sorry at all for he had done.
They say power corrupts people, well here is a good example.
Oh and Dr. Laura Schlessinger blames Mr. Spitzer’s unfaithfulness on his wife not
being loving enough…?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/11/dr-laura-blames-spitzer_n_90994.html
Having never really followed her, or been a fan I can’t say if Dr. Laura is demented, or
just plain stupid, but in either case she should be raked over the coals for her ill
informed remark.
It’s his wifes fault…. right..?

Larry Miller at Huff Po says it best….

I’ve had it with these guys forcing their wives to stand up there with them.
Seriously. There’s no reason for it. It doesn’t help the family, it doesn’t help the state, it doesn’t help the country or the culture, and it surely doesn’t help the wife.
Actually, there is one reason for it: The self-absorbed son-of-a-bitch is still in such deep denial of what he’s done, he actually thinks showing his shaken wife might salvage his career.
You know what I’d like to see? Just once? I’d like to see the wife interrupt his limp, stupid attempt at grandeur and step forward and say, “Excuse me, folks, but there’s something I’d like to say here.” Then I’d like her to whip around and punch him right in the nose. Bang. It doesn’t have to knock him down, and probably wouldn’t, but the look on his face would be worth it. Then she could shout, “You want to lick your wounds? Why don’t you get your whore girlfriend to do it? What’s she get for that, ten thousand?”
Then she could straighten her pearls, raise her chin and walk off stage.
I hope everyone saw this…
All those so called “Safe Republican Seats” are not so safe any more.
In Illinois today Democrat Bill Foster beat
Republican Jim Oberweis 53% to 47% to win Dennis Hasert’s old seat,
which had been GOP for 20 YEARS! In a pretty RED district!
I think we will see a lot more like this in places that will scare the crap out of the GOP.
For the simple fact that the American people are PISSED off at them for the
state of this country, and are going to send them packing for the mess they have made.
Oh yeah, and for being too ashamed to even admit it, and try to fix things.

Mike Nellis has a good personal diary over at Daily Kos that everyone should read, it shines some more light on Tony Raimondo and his real ideals.
Here’s an excerpt -
During a discussion on the economy Tony brought up the issue of the Death Tax and that it needed to abolished. My issue with this, and it appears to be consistent, the term “Death Tax” is a right-wing talking point. You can thank Frank Lux for that. This follows a pattern of Tony dishing out right-wing phrases and talking points.
Thanks Mike for taking the time to put it up.
Full Diary Here at Daily Kos.
Or at Mikes New Blog Site - http://nebraskaprogressive.com/
Kyle Michaelis has more on Tony’s penchant for going all right wing here also -
The issue of Mr. Raimondo has been hitting the fan here in Nebraska amongst the grassroot
Dems for some time, and many have argued, (including me) that he is simply changing parties to further his own agenda of winning a Senate seat.
Tony has been a life long GOP supporter, he has donated a lot of money to the GOP, and supported George Bush and Bush’s policies, and seemingly still does. (Read the above stories).
Amazingly after 8 years of mismanagement at the hands of the GOP leadership, this guy still uses those same talking points that have gotten our country to where it is today and he expects us to buy them?
Sorry Tony, if we wanted someone like you to represent us, we would all switch parties to the GOP and vote for Mike Johanns, because there is not much difference between you and him.
Neither one of you supports Democratic principles or the best interests of working class Nebraskan’s.
Paul
There will be much written about Tony Raimondo’s Democratic bid for the Senate seat in Nebraska. Most of the talk and gossip is of Raimondo’s failed attempt at the Bush adminsitrations “Manufacturing Czar” position and lifelong Republican membership and possible Senate run…..
Yeah, I know it’s a spoof. but it’s funny in a scary sort of way:
Kyle Michaelis over at NNN had this to say about Tonly Raimondo.
It’s almost impossible to overstate the importance of the economy in electoral politics. In prosperous times, people vote on different issues, but little else really seems to matter when a person can’t find a job or provide for ones family.
With the mess the Bush Administration has made of the U.S. economy, there’s a huge opening here for Raimondo…if he can separate himself from Bush’s policies after once being nominated as his manufacturing czar. After 25 years of creating jobs in Nebraska - having seen the best and worst of the business cycle - voters might just be willing to give Raimondo the benefit of the doubt.Of course, Kleeb also understands the importance of economic security. He campaigned beautifully in 2006, speaking to the real world concerns of Nebraska families on this precise point. Kleeb had a great message then. I’m sure he’ll have a great message now. On May 13th, it’ll be up to voters to decide how well that message competes with Raimondo’s experience.
The problem with that statement is the fact that Tony R. has ALL of his experience in Business, he has a natural adversion against government regulation as a business man. And the fact that until a few months ago, he was a life long Republican.
The reason our economy is in such a mess right now, is the lack of regulation for the financial system, and the fact that under the current GOP administration, Government agencies were encouraged to NOT enforce any regulations the Decider and his cronies didn’t like, IE; were bad for business profits, regardless of how it screws the AMERICAN people.
Mr. Raimondo’s business experience should be more of a red flag than a badge of honor.
People are waking up to the fact that if you keep sending business men to DC to represent us, they ALWAYS end up representing big business interests and NOT those of the average American.
In America our own manufacturing sector has gone into the toilet over the last 8 years,
with lots of jobs being shipped overseas, mostly to China.
So guess who also has a plant in China - Yep, Tony Raimondo.
He didn’t expand his operation here in Nebraska, he moved jobs offshore.
A better test of who to vote for is if that candidate actually SHARES the same Core values as the Democrats he or she want to be the voice of in Washington.
The LAST thing we need for Democrats in Nebraska is another business man to go lobby for
businesses, and leave the common person with no voice in the Senate.
Scott Kleeb shares the same values as most Liberal Nebraskan’s and he has been in our party for more than a couple of months…. both of which make him stand head and shoulders above
Tony Raimondo.
If SOME Nebraska Democrats are willing to sell out their core values, of what SHOULD make them a Democrat in the first place. Just so they can get a win in November, since they think Tony Raimondo would be the most acceptable candidate to GOP Voters, then they should switch parties and become what they really are… GOP lite.
Bussinessmen should stick to business and stay out of this government, we already have enough people putting business interests ahead of the common good in Washington, we really don’t need one more.
Especially one who’s real loyalty to Democratic values is highly suspect.
Right now the time is right to vote for CHANGE, not for more of the same.
And that’s exactly what Tony Raimondo is… more of the same.
UPDATE..
Tony is also against Gay marriage, Pro Life, and a firm supporter of GOP supply side economics, and supports the Bush tax cuts.
All of which, at best make him a middle of the road to right leaning Republican.
And definately not someone I would want to be my representative in Washington, well not unless I wanted more the same thing we have seen over the last 8 years from the GOP.
Paul
If you caught New Mexico Govenor Bill Richardson on CNN tonight you might have noticed… he is sporting a full beard, and really looks pretty cool with it. The one thing everyone should admire about Bill is the fact he tried VERY HARD to steer the race for the Dem Nomination to the issues that mattered and never went negative on anyone else during his run. Bill R. has mucho mojo right now, and always has had… too bad a lot of OTHER folks that represent us ain’t figured out that being honest WORKS!!!!
